Origin: Southern and Eastern Africa — found in Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tanzania, Namibia, and South Africa

Description:
Kiaat is a highly valued African hardwood prized for its rich golden-brown to reddish-brown color, beautiful grain, natural resistance to decay, and excellent workability. Sometimes called “African Teak” (though unrelated to true teak), Kiaat offers both aesthetic appeal and performance, making it a popular choice for fine furniture, cabinetry, carving, flooring, and musical instruments.

Light in weight compared to many tropical hardwoods, yet remarkably stable and durable, Kiaat is an excellent material for interior and exterior applications — even in semi-exposed environments — without requiring chemical treatment.

Color & Appearance

• Heartwood: Light to medium golden-brown, often with copper or reddish tones; darkens with age

• Sapwood: Pale yellow or whitish, clearly demarcated

• Grain: Straight to interlocked, often with a wavy or ribbon figure

• Texture: Fine to medium, with natural luster and occasional figuring
